Entrance doors are the starting point for any residential, office, or commercial building. They must reliably protect not only from intruders but also from the cold, noise, odours, etc. In addition, they must be durable and easy to use. About how to choose the best front door for a private house or apartment – read in the article.

The main criteria for choosing a front door

Before starting the search of exterior doors or considering their installation and replacement, it is worth starting with the answers to such simple questions:

Where exactly will the front door be installed – in the apartment, in the office, or a private house?

  • What should the performance characteristics of the structure be?
  • What material should the structure be made of?
  • What colour and style should the canvas be?
  • What budget can be allocated for the purchase?
  • What is the size of the doorway?

The information received will significantly narrow the scope of the search, speed up the purchase and promote a successful selection.

How to select the front door for a private house?

It is definitely not worth saving on the door for a private house. The door lock must be secure. Even better, if the protection system is represented by two locks and a night latch. The thickness of the metal should be from 1.5-2 mm. Resistance to weather extremes is another important characteristic that can not be ignored. Insulated doors are a must-have. Various materials can be used as a filler, including mineral wool, expanded polystyrene, etc. In this case, the internal insulation of the door itself will be appropriate.

The so-called “vestibule” greatly helps to protect the door structure from freezing. In fact, this is a small corridor that serves as a temperature buffer zone. The surface will not come into contact with the warm air coming from the heated room. This method improves thermal insulation, protects the door from freezing, and prevents drafts. Meanwhile, the attic will help protect the front door from sunburn and rainfall.

How to choose the front door for the apartment?

If the security system of an apartment building is reliable (for example, an intercom or electronic lock is installed for the entrance door) there is no need to spend money on a particularly strong front door. The main parameters to pay attention to are the following:

  • reliable door locks;
  • availability of high-quality seals that will prevent the penetration of unpleasant odours from the outside;
  • good sound insulation

Given the limited space, manufacturers mostly offer to install standard single-leaf doors in the apartment. However, this is not a mandatory rule. As for the material, it may be different. Steel armoured doors will be a great option for any home. Modern decoration options and a wide range of colours will not leave anyone indifferent. Traditional wooden doors are also a good option, however, they cost a lot. Pick the appropriate option for you and enjoy the result!
