When moving, you obviously want all of your items to arrive at your new home in perfect condition, but it’s sure to be even more important that your most expensive and valuable home décor and other items remain safe during the move.

So, check out the following best practices for moving your high-value belongings.

 Get the Right Supplies

To ensure your valuable ornaments, mirrors, artworks, designer-style furniture, and any other home décor are kept safe during the move, it’s essential that all of your items are packed properly.

So, the first thing you need to do is identify which items need extra protection and then purchase the appropriate packing materials.

You’ll need things like bubble wrap, packing paper, tape, and moving blankets. You’ll also need boxes that are heavy-duty and the right size.

Basically, the more tightly packed and secure your items are, the less chance there is of them being damaged during your move.

Start Packing Early

If you leave packing all of your belongings until the last minute, it’s likely that you’ll be packing things while tense or stressed.

In turn, that can lead to packing mistakes which result in your valuable belongings not being packed as well as they should be.

So, give yourself plenty of time before the move date to pack everything properly. You should start around three or four weeks prior to the move.

You can then make sure all of your most expensive home décor and other items are packed correctly with the most protection.

Pack Your Items Carefully

When it comes to the actual packing of items, you should know how to pack in the best way to provide protection to your valuable items.

That means putting bubble wrap or packing paper inside boxes before putting items in them, wrapping each item individually to ensure items in the same box don’t rub against one another, and not overstuffing boxes.

You can then be sure your items are packed as securely as possible.

Decide on a Designated Room for Packing

The more organized you are in your packing, the smoother everything will run.

So, it’s a good idea to set up a specific packing room where you keep all of the packing materials, like boxes, tape, and bubble wrap, and where you can methodically pack items in the run-up to the move day.

If you’re not organized in your packing approach, you could overlook packing valuable items or end up not packing your expensive items in the correct way.

Consider Getting Professional Movers to Pack Your Items

While the above tips can certainly help you to ensure your items are kept safe during the move, it could be best to hire a moving company that also offers a packing service.

When you hire professional movers who have experience in packing and moving high-value items, you can have peace of mind that all your belongings will be looked after.

Quality moving companies use the right packing materials and know how to pack different items correctly to avoid damage from occurring, such as using double-walled boxes for packing fine china.

Professional movers will also use a high-value inventory form to identify and track your expensive items.

And they will know how to pack items into the moving truck correctly to provide protection during the journey.

Find the Right Moving Company

Whether you’re moving locally or far away, you’ll need to hire a reputable moving company. But if you’re moving long distance, it’s arguably even more important that you find the right moving company to pack and transport your belongings.

One of the best ways of finding the right company for your needs is to use an online platform which specializes in helping you to find the right moving company for your upcoming long-distance move.

The site can help you narrow down your choices to find the companies that are best suited to your specific requirements and your location.

Furthermore, Long Distance Moving only works with movers that have been pre-screened to ensure they have the appropriate experience, skills, licenses, and insurance for a professional and smooth move.

Purchase Moving Insurance

It’s crucial you make sure that the moving company you use has the proper insurance in place. After all, even the most reputable moving companies can potentially be involved in road accidents that could damage your belongings.

Even if you plan on hiring a truck and moving your stuff yourself, you should take out insurance for your extra-valuable items, just to be on the safe side.
